4 Types of Blog Posts You Should Be Writing

blog posts you should be writing

Cannabis 101

While some of your target audience has likely enjoyed cannabis in some form for a long time, others will be new to it. Plus, because there are more ways to consume cannabis and more information about it available, Cannabis 101 posts that aim to share important info can be a great way to connect with the canna-curious. Posts about edible dosage, vaping, and cannabinoids can all help readers better understand the product your selling and help them make choices that result in an enjoyable experience. And that means they’ll be back for more.

Local Blog Posts

One way to boost your local profile (and your local SEO) is to do local posts about happenings in your community. This can be anything from highlight charitable organizations that you support to sharing some of the best hiking or camping spots in your hood. If you’re in a tourist destination, share your favorite must-see spots—and save yourself a spot on the list.

Event-Based Posts

Hosting a vendor? Having an open-mic night? Talk about your event in a post! You can drum up some buzz about an event before the fact and encourage people to stop by or cover the event and share important or fun info. Add an email or text signup CTA at the bottom of the post to help draw additional customers to your future events.

Canna-Culture

The industry is expanding and there’s always something new happening. Whether it’s a new product, regulations, partnership, or even just a hilarious movie, writing about it can help your dispensary brand connect with your target audience.

Brainstorming Topics

Now that you know the broad categories you should focus on, it’s time to pinpoint topics under each category. One easy way to do this is to open up a spreadsheet or blank doc, write down the category, and then just start spitballing ideas.
For example, for Cannabis 101, possible topics may include:

  • Best Ways to Consume Cannabis for Pain
  • Top 5 Terpenes for Anxiety
  • Intro to CBD—And Why Cannabis CBD is Best

One great way to come up with topics is to check with your budtenders. As your customer service reps, they’re interfacing with customers every day and hear plenty of questions. Write down the questions they are frequently asked and turn those into blog posts. If your customers are asking your budtenders those questions, after all, there are plenty of people searching for those same answers. Alternatively, you can use those same questions to draw up a useful FAQ page.

Writing Blogs: Researching Keywords

Keyword research can help ensure that the topic you want to write about can give you an SEO boost. It can also help you pinpoint additional topics. Using tools like Ahrefs, Semrush, and Google Trends, you can narrow down your topics and find keywords your site can rank for.
For the post, “Best Ways to Consume Cannabis for Pain,” you might want to check the stats for the following keywords: best strains for pain, cannabis consumption, cannabis consumption for pain, cannabis for pain, consume cannabis, consume marijuana, marijuana consumption, marijuana consumption for pain, marijuana for pain, strains for pain. Running these through Ahrefs, you’ll see how many searches each keyword gets a month so you can use the one that you’re most likely to get traction on. This will likely mean retooling the title to include the keyword for search purposes.
Blog posts are a great way to share information with potential customers—and they can help give your site an SEO boost. Want help? Let MediaJel handle your content. We do everything from ideation to creation to publication. Contact us now to learn more.
